Supporting the Community Through Environmental Rehabilitation

When the open land along Harrison Flats began deteriorating into an overgrown, unsafe illegal dumping ground, Merlog Foods decided to take action. The degradation made the area unpleasant for the community and unsuitable for grazing.

With approval from the local Municipality and support from the ward councillor, Merlog Foods spearheaded a major rehabilitation project. Coordinated by the Hammarsdale Cato Ridge Development Association (of which Merlog is a founding member), and generously supported by NCP Chlorchem, Cosworth Carriers, and Msenge Environmental Landscapes, the team successfully removed 340 cubic metres of rubbish.

We repurposed usable dumped material to fill areas previously mined for sand, blocked illegal entrances, and erected signage to prevent future dumping. The area is already safer and more accessible for the community. Our ongoing plan includes the removal of alien invasive vegetation and the replanting of natural grasses to fully restore the local ecosystem.
